Tribeca Film Festival and a Bollywood Dance Party

As you may have seen the logo to the left all over town, the Tribeca Film Festival kicked off its 2012 season Wednesday night with a great line-up of movies, shorts and documentaries.  I have tickets for this upcoming Saturday night’s screening of “Nancy, Please” and I’m already planning my strategy to be able to stay up late enough for it!  I love the festival as it’s an opportunity to view a film that a select few will be able to see (well ok, maybe we weren’t “selected” but at least we were lucky enough to grab a ticket before it was sold out); and it’s an opportunity to become intimate with the film, as I normally do, rooting for it to be picked up for meaningful distribution and becoming so excited once it does (that is, if I like the film)!

The Tribeca Film Festival is a wonderful event that brings the focus back to the southern tip of Manhattan, which in my opinion, is too often a victim of having it’s beauty overlooked.  Included in that overlooked beauty is the surviving and revamped Winter Garden inside the World Financial Center and its pier leading out to the Hudson River located in Battery Park City.  Taking advantage of TFF’s festival environment, the Winter Garden is hosting a Bollywood Dance Party Tuesday evening (April 24th).  This is a free event starts at 7.30pm with free Bollywood lessons by dhoonyaDANCE, following by dance music by DJ Rekha, from Basement Bhanghra and accompanied by colorful Bollywood movies and video mash-ups, which will be screened on its huge Media Wall. The Festival is the perfect way to begin the summer season in NYC which is always full of fun (and free) events!
